Module 4:What does purpose-led look like?
Find inspiration in successful businesses that are creating a better world and supporting the UN SDGs.
Get ideas about things your business can do to succeed during the COVID-19 pandemic and become more resilient to future changes.
The aim is to get you started on your journey to bring your sustainability purpose to life.
Business as usual is no longer an option. We are living in an increasingly uncertain world. Temperatures are rising, droughts are more frequent, food supplies are increasingly scarce, the gap between rich and poor is growing. With change though, comes opportunity.
Businesses that thrive in the future will be those that serve society today. Successful delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – which seek to tackle 17 of the world’s most urgent challenges will create market opportunities of at least $12 trillion a year.
Dive deeper into what purpose-led means. It is a shift away from organizations just being focused on profits to actually standing for something and giving back to the world, socially and environmentally. This purpose ultimately becomes the ‘why’ and the driving force behind every action the organization makes. This module’s eBook is loaded with case studies of companies who are focused on more than just profits.
Find ways that COVID has changed consumer behaviour, and take time to think about how these changes could lead to a more sustainable future. Similar to consumers, COVID has forced companies to change the way that they deal with their partners, suppliers, customers, employees, and society. Learn the reasons why a systemic change like COVID-19 has stimulated innovation.
First think about the ways that COVID has impacted your company, its suppliers, customers, and employees
What are some changes that would improve your company’s ability to sustainably respond to COVID or future uncertainty?
How would this create a win for your company?
Post your ideas about ways that your company might respond to COVID to create a more sustainable future. Review posts from your fellow learners, do they give you any ideas?
Module 5: Why collaboration matters for the SDGs
Discover the secret of successful collaboration and learn how to use tools to become a more effective collaborator.
The problems the SDGs address are way too big and complex to fix alone, it is going to take many cross-sector collaborations, possibly between groups that have never partnered before. These new alliances are what can spur the ingenuity and innovation that are required.
During this module’s videos, we will talk about what collaboration is, dive into the 4 C’s of collaboration for sustainable development, old versus new thinking on how to collaborate effectively, and introduce some tools you can use to successfully collaborate toward an SDG.
Get inspired by cases studies of successful collaborations that further the SDGs. Find tools that you can use to manage your collaborations. Consider some ways that collaboration has changed due to the COVID pandemic, and how that might create opportunity. Finally, take time to consider the tactical means of collaboration: the method, frequency, timing, and purpose, as these are things you will want to agree up front with your future collaborators.
First think about some ways that you might start to work toward your SDG.
Are there any collaborators who might be able to help you to make progress as you work toward your goal?
Are these collaborators already in your network, where might you find them?
Are there any collaborators you think you need but don’t already know? (e.g, a water systems expert).
Share your collaboration need on the forum, and have a look at what others have posted, perhaps you can make a connection!
Module 6: How to collaborate effectively in the ecosystem of purpose
Learn why you need collaborators and where to find them. Go into new collaborations with your eyes open to why collaborations can sometimes fail. We will also introduce you to the 5 conflict management styles and explain when each should be used.
In this module’s videos, we will introduce you to the 5 different modes of managing conflict, and help you to recognize which should be used, depending on the situation. You will also learn how to use diversity to your advantage, in finding the sweet spot of innovation and collaboration.
Get inspired by case studies in collaborative partnerships that foster sustainable innovation.
Consider what it is you look for in a collaborative partner. Do you always look for the same thing in a partner? Are there reasons why sometimes you may look for similarities in collaborators and other times for differences?
Jump on to the forum, and describe a collaboration that was very successful…or one that was not. Share your ideas about why success or failure occurred.
Module 7: Bringing the global goals to life in your business

We move from theory to action, as we help you discover what your organization can do to achieve the global goals.
